Lenny Kravitz 1995

If you were to name a musician that embodies the modern day rock star, I’m sure Lenny Kravitz would be at the top of your list. I was big fan of his back in the early 90’s when he came out because he was legit and did his own thing. Did you know that on his early albums he wrote and recorded them all and played every instrument himself? That’s legit talent. He has a style that isn’t only for the stage, he lives it. He’s a big fan of art and architecture and the coolest guy in any room. I recently heard a podcast with his daughter Zoe where she said when she was a kid she would be embarrassed when he would come pick her up at school wearing a fishnet shirt and driving a bright green Viper. Perfectly normal for him. Also, if you didn’t know, Zoe’s mom is Lisa Bonet, Bill Cosby’s TV daughter. She is probably also the coolest woman in the room too.

I got see Lenny in concert one time and he put on a great show as I would expect. What I didn’t expect was that he toured out into the audience at one point which I thought was really cool of a rockstar like him. He walked right by me (amid the screaming women - ah, ok, I get why he went into the audience now…) and I got to touch his jacket. My literal brush with fame.

Lenny will always be cool in my books because of his authenticity. That’s him. Rockstar.
I have to admire that.
