Dolly Parton 1977

Anyone will agree that Dolly is a Legend. She has come from a dirt-poor family of 11 kids to a global star. She’s written many hits that have been recorded by other musicians such as “I will always love you” by Whitney Houston. Elvis wanted to record that song also but required half the publishing rights which Dolly refused. Good move, since Whitney blew that song up to a number 1 hit and millions of dollars in Dolly’s pockets. Fun fact, she wrote her other famous song, “Jolene” and “I will always love you” in the same writing session in the early ’70s. That was a good day.

Growing up, I remember my Mom playing Dolly albums along with Kenny Rogers and it amazes me that all these years later that I still know all the words to these songs when they come on.

I really love this image from her promo card in 1977. Such a beauty.

This piece is mixed media and collage with acrylic, spray paint, pencil, and ink.
