It’s Only Rock n’ Roll

One of my all-time favourite bands, The Rolling Stones. They invented what we know today as “The Rock Star Lifestyle” just by being themselves and taking excess to a level not seen before. Their output from 1967 to 1972 created many classics and set new standards for the industry. Sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll were defined during this era and the fact that they have survived (well mostly) and continue to tour 50+ years later is just mind-boggling. The Stones laid down the road for many musicians for decades to follow.

I first saw the Stones in 1989 at the Pontiac Silverdome on the Steel Wheels tour and had never seen a show so big and I was excited to see Living Color open for them. I was a big fan of LC but they sounded so terrible in that big stadium that I could hardly sit through it. The Stones show was great though and I didn’t leave disappointed. I still have the concert shirt. I saw them also in Toronto at Sars Stock with about 700,000 other people on a hot summer day. They had a great line-up with Rush, ACDC, Justin Timberlake, and a bunch of other bands. Not going to lie, ACDC kinda stole the show.

This piece is mixed media and collage on canvas with acrylic, leafing, spray paint, pencil, and ink finished in varnish.
